2002 50 hp efi ...overspeed alarm

hi , i have talked to a dealer and tried a few things - no luck.......they said overheat / overcharge....i worked out of a manual but manual dont have enough info on overspeed fault code......i invested in a smartcraft display and while the engine is running/in use 2 fault codes comes up "overspeed" and "guardian"...whitch means the engine is over reving but it only does 4000rpm...???? i have surfed the net and could only find two other similar complaints but no one have awnsers to them
 
Hi Did you solve the issue? I have a mercruiser 5.0 mpi, everything works well below 4000 rpm, above 4000 rpm the overspeed alarm went on. thanks Martin
