671tib Broken rod crack in block

Can this be welded it is below the air box or just find a new block.and are all 671 blocks the same.not having a good day:(
 
Sorry, when u try to weld a block it seems to just split the casting more,also being you have a j&t 6-71 you must have a new style block for "tib" so no you must have a certain style block to make it work best of luck!
 
I think if drill two holes at each end of the crack and preheat the block before welding this will work. I am looking for shop manuals to help.
 
It's a lost art now but google "metal stitching" and you will see one way of addressing the issue. A very KNOWLEDGEABLE welder could weld it and it would hold but those guys are rare and hard to find. You are correct about preheating but using the proper rod and current along with technique is also a part of a reliable repair. Most guys just make a mess of it.
 
dont even try to weld block. to do this block must heated in a oven, some one that knows how to do.
