2006 Yamaha 115hp 4 stroke Trim gauge not showing corect position

When motor is tilted up the gauge only shows about 1/4 up. When tilted down the gauge bottoms out. I have attempted to adjust the bracket at the sending unit. How do I determine if the gauge or the sending unit is bad. Is there another adjustment. Any help would be appreciated. It is on a 06 Skeeter with a combo analog gauge, tach, water pressure and Trim all in one .

Re: 2006 Yamaha 115 4 stroke Trim gauge not showing corect position

Rob,
My F115 recently did something similar. Turned out to be a plastic collar on the tilt shaft that cracked. The collar has a tab that contacts the actuator for the tilt indicator. It rotates on the shaft when cracked which results in erronerous tilt reading. I think this problem may be common because a friend with a F90 had several of these fail. The replacement part is metal and take only a few minutes to install.

Hope that helps.
