looking to purchase this motor second hand; When cranking the motor there was an audible alarm and it wouldn't start. No manual was available to check. The oil reservoir was about half full. Any ideas?
 
First thing is to check the compression and spark. Then pull the bottom drain plug in the lower unit to check for water. The alarm could be a bad float in the oil tank. (beep beep beep) solid alarm is overheat which would be a bad sensor. Run the motor on an auxilary tank with premix fuel and you should be ok to check it out.
