I'm trying to accurately identify this 5hp outboard I've bought. The model is 5C and the serial is 6E3 L 310398.
Firstly, even though it says 5C, I think it should probably be 5CS, as it uses an external fuel tank, rather than an internal one. Or is this a wrong assumption?
Secondly, from my research, it would appear that the "L" stands for long-shaft, which is accurate. Further research has suggested that "6E3" could mean that it's a "1980-" model. Could this mean that it's a model from 1980? Or that it's a model range that started in 1980? It certainly does not look 30 years old!
I haven't even an inkling of a clue about the last 6 digits.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
