Optimax 2006 90 hp

I bought a 2006 Merc Optimax 90, with about 54 hours on it. Sat for a while (hadn't been used since summer 2009) , now when I tried it , started right up, sounds great, but if I full throttle to 5000 rpm it immediately crashes to 3000 rpm. Any ideas? Thank you.

sound like it is going into" guardian mode". take it somwhere(merc dealer) and have a computer hooked up to it to check the faults. Don't try to run it until you do this. You could do severe damage.
