I haven't worked on an inline in quite some time so my short answer is I don't know for sure. I still have my 6V 71 and 92V manuals and I can tell you that the illustrations show that those do indeed have to come off and the drive gear has to be pressed off to access a retaining ring in order to remove the bearing and shaft assembly. You can only remove the impeller and seal by removing the front cover.

I would think that the inline pump would be similar in construction. Maybe someone else here has better info. Good luck.
