2000 mercury 175hp XR2 Jet

Have a Mercury 175XR2 Jet that when you idle down to 1300 to 1400 rpm it acts like 3 cylinders shut down, it does not do this every time, when you open the throttle back up all 6 cylinders start firing, I need some help solving this one as it is on a fire dept boat.

Is this unit still oil injected or has that system been bypassed?---------------What does a compression test show?------------------Use a timing light ( all cylinders ) to find out if it is ignition related.

it is oil injected, timing light has been used, but only on the #1 cylinder, compression has not been done.
 
Do compression test and post results.---------------Timing light is used on each cylinder to look for STEADY spark.-----------These things will sound OK on 5 cylinders.-------------------------Fix it before you damage the motor.
