Can I get away with swapping 30 hp decals for 1985 9.9hp?

I was wondering if I swapped the 30 hp decals on my '85 Mariner outboard for 9.9 decals if I could get by with it when the game warden checks me. There is also a small plate on the outer housing of the shaft listing the hp etc...that would have to come off. What do you think guys?

you would be cold BUSTED!!!! They do this for a living, they can tell the size of a motor from a long way off....

Kinda what I figured too. I'm new to outboards. I figure it's best to talk to those with more experience. Big difference in the size of a 9.9 compared to a 30. Thanks for your input.

I do it all the time! My 50 and 70 hp. Mercs have "25" hp. decals on them.

PS: I know, I'm shameless!

Dumb A-- question, Why do you want to change the decals??? Is it something to do with hp limits in a certain areas??? ...BF

The reason I was thinking about changing decals is the lakes that I fish here close to home have a HP limit of 10hp or less. This 30hp Mariner came with the boat I bought last year. I've tried to sell the motor but have had no takers. Can't afford to buy a 9.9 without selling the 30 first.
