1978 Mercury 175hp V6 cooling

Hi. I'm trying to sort out the cooling on my outboard.
There is a bypass hose on top of the starboard cylinder head which was blocked off. Also, the tell tale outlet looks like it's been messed with. Can anyone tell me where the bypass hose should run to?
The motor has stood for some time & I wanted to flush it out through the hoses and thermostat points (after removing them). Is this OK?
Big thanks.

Re: 1978 Mercury 175 V6 cooling

I've had another look at my motor and the bypass hose comes from the top of the engine, between the banks of cylinders. Can anyone help as to where it should go? There is mention of this in a thread about fitting a water pressure gauge. Can't use the boat until this is sorted. Thanks.

I pretty sure it is where the water pressure hose hooks up if you don't have a water pressure gauge you should have one. but you can plug it off.
