Mariner 45 hp 1988 or 1989 4 cyl firing order

I look at this and can not see how the posted firing order of 1-3 -2 - 4
can be.

the wires run from 1 port on the distributor to the number 1 cylinder

You need to post your serial # --------I do not believe the 88 / 89 motors had a distributor.

serial number 08369428 it does not

what controls the firing order

So it does not have a belt driven " distributor "----------------------The timing and firing order is controlled by the flywheel magneto / trigger unit / stator/ and switchbox.--------------All the wires hooked up to the correct place and you need not worry about firing order.--------------Top plug is #1 and goes to the top coil. etc.---Are you having issues with the running of the motor??
