Corrosion problem with alternators and starters.

What causes alternators and starters to corrode themselves to death? I can hardly get two seasons out of them before they need replacing do to excessive corrosion. Also the front engine pulleys are rusting. I fish in salt water, and thought air moisture was the culprit, but this is getting rediculous. Does anyone have a solution?

Ayuh,.... Keeping 'em Painted, 'n the Saltwater Off 'em does wonders....

Maybe spray grease,..??

Ditto post #2.

two other thoughts - 1) use it regularly (works wonders for the whole boat too) 2) if you can't do that, spray any 'brite' surface with 'corrosion guard' (many brands available).

Over 25 years in the brine and paint is the best to slow down the corrosion.
