What rev's on muffs? 1988 Merc 90hp

Hello,

What rev's can I take my engine to when it's running on muffs? We have excellent water pressure here, and I want to use some rev's (2500?) to run some power tune through the engine.

1988 Merc 90hp
3cyl
Excellent condition
Impeller regularly replaced

Thanks,

Donald

Re: What rev's on muffs?

Revving up an outboard in nuetral can cause damage to bearings-------------and it proves nothing since there is no load on the motor.--------------------------Fogging and power tune can be done at a fast idle say 1200 RPM.

Re: What rev's on muffs?

You may have excellent water pressure, but flow out of a garden hose is not enough at high rpms to keep up with the water pump. You can blip the throttle a few times without damage, however, just don't do what some of those knuckleheads on YouTube do--rev her way up and keep doing it. The bearings won't mind, however: it's easier on them without a load.

The bearings DO MIND ???----------------- they tend to bounce around ( chatter it is called in manuals )and do damage at high revs.------------They were not designed to " work properly " with no load.
