Engine Bearers

As you may have seen in my previous posts i have purchased and removed (under expert guidance from Striger-Bell) a Volvo Kad 32 engine and dou prop 290 drive.

This is to replace a Mercruiser 485 with alpha drive in my 24ft relcraft.

I notice that the bearers fitted under the Volvo engine were 5" square blocks of wood glassed into the hull of the boat.

The boat that the engine is going into is also constructed of GRP but unlike the other it has longways timbers 8" high and 1 1/4" wide which are built in and glassed in on their edge as part of the boat construction. (stringers?)
and run almost the entire length of the boat.
these have heavy steel brackets (10mm angle plate) bolted to them and the Mercruiser mounting pads are bolted to these.
I would apreciate your opinion,
Is this a conventional way of mounting an engine
It would seem an obvious route to adjust these and mount the Volvo engine in the same way,
after correct alignment.
the Volvo engine is 250lb heavier than the Merc.
What do you think? thanks

Well, you have taken on a bit of a project! Your stringers are a bit thinner than the ones our KAD32's sit on (more like 2"). I would probably check a few other boats or have a think about stiffening them a little. How does your crank center sit with the current mounting system?
