1990 Yamaha 200hp, injection or premix?

My good friend just purchased a 24' Grady White with a 1990 200 Yamaha. The motor runs fine and is oil injected, but he worries since it is an older motor, that the injection may stop working so he wants to disable it and premix. My question is: Is this a good idea? Do the older Yamaha's have any injection problems or issues? Any replys would be greatly appreciated!:)

If the oil system works and tests fine (meaning, empty the oil tank/s, test alarm system and pump while filling the oil tank-engine off of course) and warning lights and/or gauges all work correctly, it should not be a problem.

Many boaters do just disconnect the system for better piece of mind...

One difference with oil injection verses pre-mix, pre-mix gives the same oil/fuel ratio (usually 50/1) regardless of engine speed/load. The injection system meters the oil and provides the correct (more efficient) amount of oil based on engine speed/load.

It's really all up to the owner..
