Knocking when in reverse 1979 in line 6 90HP

I get this low "toc" every ten seconds or so; Only in reverse. I won't use the reverse before I get it fixed. Any ideas?

Is it going all the way in reverse,Is your reverse working correctly.Is this in the water or with muffs on.might not be going into reverse all the way,need more info.
 
It's defenitely in reverse all the way. Not the kind of initial gear grinding you gey when shifting. In the water. The more throttle the more frequent the knocks are. What else can I say.... Just a realy "deep" knock. seems to come from the leg.
 
It could be a worn "ear" on the clutch dog or a warn ridge on the reverse gear itself. I would be inclined to leave it alone for now and crack her open in the "off season" and have a look.

Have you changed the lower unit oil recently? notice any metal bits either in the oil or stuck to the magnet on the drain plug (if it's magnetic)?
