Ihave a 52' hatteras with 8-92's. Was just doing some cleaning up and noticed that the alternator on the stbd engine is hot. The engine hasn't been running in 3 days. Any ideas?

If these are the big gear driven Delco alternators you're running, then they will be controlled by remote mounted voltage regulators, Sounds as if the regulator for that alternator is keeping the field energized all the time. DO NOT troubleshoot by hooking up your other regulator to that alt. because if there is a short in the altenator itself, it could take out your other regulator.

Thanks jmgo...I just checked and the alternator is belt driven and appears to have the regulator attached directly to the back of it.

Well, the good news is those units are much less expensive to repair or replace. Unless you have a charging relay or power/ignition switch stuck closed keeping the regulator "on", you are probably looking at removing the alternator for bench testing.
