Alternator-tach problem 1987 Lehman 275

I have a 1987 Marine Trader 50' Widebody with Lehman 275's. The port tach does not become energized until about 2000 RPM's. When I back off to cruising speed of about 1800 RPM's it bounces up an down for awhile until it settles in and reads properly.
Where is the resistance?

Re: Alternator-tach problem

Sounds like a loose wire at the alternator tach connector. Some engines had a tach sender mounted on the front of the crankshaft and the drive pin may be worn.
