Trying to figure out the year of this motor before I drive to go look at it. Supposed to be an 1985. Serial number given by owner #3621283. If it is a 1985. Was this a good year?

Respectfully, Robert Monson

If that is the correct serial number then your motor would have a Distributor style ignition.According to my book the 85 hp distributor model stopped around the mid 70's and started using the trigger style under the flywheel type ignition. This might narrow it down a little bit.

"run, run away" THAT IS SOUND ADVICE,before you get the bug to play with old motors,'cause it's an expensive habit, ask Steve, and I speak from an empty wallet:D:D:D:D.It's '73.

I have one of these 85 HP 6 cylinder Mercs (1964 I believe, although I will now try to find the serial number for an exact year) that can be sold very cheap.
It never gets used, and just sits in the corner of the garage. 3 carbs, everything worked perfect the last outing. (4 years ago)
