mrecury engine problem 2005 150 hp Optimax

Hi everyone Im new to this site and need to ask my first question,I have a mercury 150 optimax 2005 on my boat and was out fishing yesterday about five miles off and it started to bleep like it do when you first turn the ignition key.It bleeped 4 times every 2 minutes.during which time i checked the water coming out ok checked for enough oil slowed down and headed for home but every two minutes it would bleep 4 times.when i got back to the pontoon i turned off the engine but turned back on the ignition key and the bleeping went off again 4 times every two minutes even without the engine running.Does anyone know what could be the reason for this? I would be very grateful for any advice. Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply beceris I will certaianly be checking the oil system and fuel when I get back down to the boat.Ive just started using another oil instead of quicksilver now im wondering if this could be the reason because this new oil recommended to me looked alot thinner
