Hi all, I am new here and hope you can help me out. My dad has a early 70's 80 hp mercury. The first start is fairly easy and it runs great no problems. When you stop for more then 5 min it dosent want to start up again with out a lot of cranking, like 5 min or more fiddling with it. I did notice that the bulb on the fuel line does not have much pressure and I have to pump it back up.

Any help on how to make it start easier would be great,

Thanks

Rob

You could put it in a box and ship to me and I'll get rid of of for you:D.Seriously though, change the the primer bulb,it sounds as if it is allowing the fuel to run back.If that doesn't do the trick have the fuel pump checked out, there may be a pinhole in the diaphram, and make sure the tank is vented.

Yes! I agree the anti syphon valve in the primer bulb could be allowing the fuel in the engine to return to the tank, thus needing to reprime every time you want too restart after 5 or 10 minutes...Merc
