Mercury 198 150 hp Outboard take off issue!

I have a 1998 Mercury 150 HP 2.0L V6 outboard with carbs. The motor runs great and accelerates great while in neutral or out of the water. Once running on the water, it doesn't want to take of according to the acceleration given. It looks like it floods or something happens where it looses power to the point of shutting off if the throttle is not taken back. The heavier the load the worse it get and the longer it takes to make it run. I have to make short throttle bursts in order to little by little make it take off. Thanks......

It sounds like dirty carbs. You might try some SeaFoam added to the gas at this point and (baby it) through a couple gallons of gas to see if you have caught it in time - otherwise, the carbs are going to have to come off followed by a disassembly and cleaning.

The "bogging" under load is almost always a sign of clogged carb(s)...
