1980 mide section to 1994 power head

Hi Guys,

I would like some advice on a mid section swap.

I would like to put a 1980 2.4 litre (175) mid section on a 1994 2 litre (135) power head and gear box to convert it to 20 inch.

The parts appear to be the same and i know mid sections are the same across many years, but they have different mercury part numbers.
Does anyone know if this swap is possible before i pull the 2 litre apart and realise they don't fit?!?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

woa nelly.....id hate to be you once you realized it didnt fit...i think a better solution is to find a 20 inch motor already assembled. theres FOURTEEN YEARS between those two motors. thats a awful lot of time engineering wise and production pattern changes between them your nearly gaurenteed issues

The similarities are striking and it seems from exploded diagrams that the late exhaust tube slides right on in.
But you are right. What a job bolting it all back together if it doesn't fit!

Hi all,

Thought i would update my post.
I just checked the Mercury parts list and the two trunks are both the same part number.
So i guess i am good to go.
