1997 25hp Tracker by merc outboard. New-to-me motor. Cleaned carb and new water pump impeller and cleaned up real good.
Starts great with pull cord. Still have to fine tune the carb and timing yet.
The starter solonoid just clicks once when turning key. Cleaned every wire contact I could find based on reading other similar topics.
I am getting good meter readings on wire from battery to solonoid.
Good readings across solonoid post when key is turned.
Good reading through yellow wire going from solonoid to starter when key is turned.
Fuse is good.
Nothing happens when jumping the solonoid posts.
Removed starter and cleaned the brushes (lots of spring and length yet) and polished the communicator. Quickly bench tested the starter by hooking up to car with booster cables from + on starter and the - to the starter case. NOTHING.
If the starter is good, direct boosting it should get it to operate correct?
Can I assume the starter is toast.
