Hello all... been awhile since my last post (2008- LOL!)
I am in the process of installing a great running 1963 75HP Powerhead, onto a '68 65HP Manual-Shift Leg.
I removed the leg- and was going to do an inspection/seal & Impeller. Everything was looking good, gears and bearings were perfect, clutch-dog shows little wear, and even the impeller was soft-supple and looked new (will change anyway).
However- when I pulled the prop-shaft out of the gearcase housing, a small chunk of metal fell out. It was a piece of the housing that the prop-shaft inserts into- behind the bearing. I don't believe this was damaged while running. I think the engine had been banged around alot, and even dropped a time or two.
I think the gearcase would be fine reassembled as-is, but heck... while I'm in there... I may as well try to get a replacement.
The OMC part number is: 378590
What years/models does this interchange with? I only have the '63, '67, and '68 parts catalogs...
A friend has a '60 Starflite (Jetstream-Drive) manual lower unit- will this work?
