My AMC 327 with single downdraft carb starts and runs OK after a squirt of ether. If shut down after running a short while, it is then very hard to crank and restart. I swapped out the battery with no effect. It almost feels like excessive compression, but I haven't had a chance to pull plugs and crank.
Could this be fuel rapidly draining into cylinders? Water from a blown head gasket? If the latter, what is a good source?
If the former, I'd be inclined to buy a rebuilt carb; Any recommendations?
