no spark to 1991 88hp spl

I was given a boat with a 91 88 spl. Cleaned up the motor starting with the plugs, just gave them a wipe off with a rag. Checked them for spark, and they had plenty. Next I went to draining the old fuel out. Put new fuel in and with starting fluid tried to get it started only to find out there is no spark. Not sure where to go from here.

did you check the kill switch? dieconnect the black/yellow wire on the motor (kill wire) check for spark.
