General question: "carb clean" : what is usually meant?

I've been browsing a bit and many times I see "clean the carbs". What is usually intended by this description? Pull carbs, drop bowl and clean that area? or run some carb cleaner through it while running? or get a carb kit and rebuild with all new gaskets, etc?

Any thoughts?

What I mean when I say "clean the carbs" is to remove & completely disassemble, soak parts in carb cleaner, rinse, & blow dry with compressed air. This generally requires a rebuild kit.
