1981 50hp electrical question

Serial #6011979.Found two of the wires coming out of the stator are falling apart. I only have maybe three inches of wire before they go into the stator. Can these wire be replaced? Or am I looking at a new stator?
 
Strip the wire until it's good and solder on new wire,and a little heatshrink,done the same myself and I only had 3/4" to work with.Just be sure to use the same gauge,12 I think.
