I have a solid tone alarm happening twice and I set out to change the water pump which I have done about 10 years ago but I forgot how I disconnected the trans linkage before dropping the lower unit yall tell me the trick
 
Take motor cover off and where the shaft comes up thru lower unit into the motor area you will see the linkage-remove the cotter pin and washer and push the linkage to the port side I think. Not all motors are like this. There are a few different setups that I am not familiar with. Some disconnect thru the water intake grate on the lower unit but I think yours disconnects up top. Its a little tricky putting it back together because you cannot see what you are doing when your hand is in there.
