1968 9.5 hp Johnson

I have a 1968 9 1/2 hp Johnson outboard. The problem I am having is that it starts and runs fine for about 10 seconds, then quits. I checked out the gas tank, fuel hose and bulb, fuel pump and all is well up to the carbruetor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Much, Augster

Are you loosing spark?
Does pumping the primer bulb keep it runing?
Have you overhauled the carb?
Is the low speed jet set properly?

I have a 68 9.5 too. Does it run with the cover off? If it does then the problem is with exhaust fumes getting into the combustion area. Check all exaust seals and ports. Check the motor cover seal too and make sure it has a good seal all around. Check choke linkage assembly too.
