1969 9.5hp evinrude testing the cooling system

Re: 1969 9.5 evinrude testing the cooling system

The way I used to do it was to change the water pump on a regular basis. Then you don't need to test. Otherwise, I would measure the cylinder head temperature.

Re: 1969 9.5 evinrude testing the cooling system

What is the temperature suppose to be ? And do I measure the temperature everywhere on the head to find the highest reading ?

Re: 1969 9.5 evinrude testing the cooling system

look for a temp around 168 deg- 190 deg, at the end of the piston stroke., (end of the block, or the head, you will be able to tell very fast where the hot spot is.)

The discharge water felt hotter than other motors I have worked on. How do I know I am overheating prior to causing damage ?
