motor won't tilt up

Took the boat out for a ride tonight when we got back to the slip the motor would'nt tilt up. The trim works going down but not a thing for trim up to tilt. I believe the control is original to the motor which is a 1987 Johnson. The switch for the trim/tilt is mounted in the shift handle. Is there a procedure for trouble shooting this?
 
Yeah. Check the trim/tilt relay box. It has two relays in there. Switch them and see if your problem moves to the other direction. If so, your up relay is bad.
 
Yes. Follow the wire from your T&T motor, it should lead you to it. Many times you can just wiggle the relay in its socket, and it will work until you have time to pull it and properly clean the plug in terminals.
 
Thanks again Martino,fixed it today. I just swapped them around and it worked but I bought a new one anyway. I'll keep the old one for a spare.
