5.5 Johnson do not know how to tilt the shaft

bought a Johnson 5.5 HP outboard and it appears to be stuck on the 45 degree angle tilt bar, am having trouble adjusting it and do not have a manual
 
If it is on the trim adjustment bar make sure the lever at the front between the brackets for the lock is unlocked. Pull up on the bottom of the motor then the bar can be adjusted to a different hole by pulling up and moving it. It may take some effort to move the bar if it has been sitting awhile. You may also have to pry the lock open at the bar. The bar should have a piece sticking out to the side as a handle but will want to tilt sideways as you try to adjust making it more difficult to move.
