My 1977 140 Evinrude looses power at 4,500 rpm's and drops to 3,300 and back up to 4,500 all within seconds and continues to do this until I lower the rpm's down to about 3,800. At 4,200 rpm's it runs fine. Could it be water in gas, bad throttle cables, bad fuel pump, etc. I just yesterday removed the water jackets, cleaned them out (they were full of white (salt looking) deposits).
Prior to cleaning them the water pump bell would go off at 4,200 rpm's and I would have to wait 15 minutes for the engine to cool down. Any suggestions?
