regulator issues

New member
Just bought a new regulator, instaled it and started the motor now it wouldn't charge and the tach didn't work then it started to smoke. before with the old regulator wasallowing the stator to put out 16.9v any ideas why the new regulator blew? motor is 1987 xp150
