2007 yamaha f 20hp rev limiter question

Does the rev limiter sound like a knock or popping sound when reached? I ran a 9 1/4 X 12 prop on a duckwater 14 and got 25.5 mph wot no sounds(popping or knocking). I switched to a 9 1/4 X 9 prop and at wot I get a popping or knocking noise, is this the rev limiter kicking in? I know I should get a tiny tach and check it but just curious if any one knows. TIA

a knocking or a pop that does not sound good...
i am pretty sure it is not supposed to do that you should get a tach and see what your rpm's is... dont run it WOT you may/will damage your engine!
