I have a 1978 55hp with powertilt. I have had the motor check and it works fine but when it is connect to the cyclinder it goes down fine. But for it to come up it is real slow. Someone told me it might be one of the ports might be plug up. Any info will be helpful. the tilt is a prestolite ya-5012.

Re: power tilt

does it bleed down? If there is no bleed down but your system lifts slowly then it is either a bod electrical connection somewhere or a problem with the trim motor. If it bleeds down then your pump may be working fine but uses up half of its effort just keeping up with bleed down. Mechanics will tell you 1972-1989 Presolite valve bodies are not rebuildable. Not true. They can be rebuilt to work like new for about $100 by someone who knows the pump and has generic industrial standard parts to fit them.

Re: power tilt

The motor is fine. It holds pressure fine and it will bleed down fine. It just works real hard when it tries to come up. Someone told me it might be a stop up check value.
