If your fuel tank doesn't keep very good level indication you might want to check the float. Ethanol and the old varnished cork floats don't get along. Gonna let it dry a few days after stripping the old varnish off and then try coating it with super glue. The old cork floats in the carb with the red coating behave the same way. The float in the middle is the oldest style and not for use in ethanol. The one on the left I'm not sure about. Not really red but not yellow either. Does show some sign of cracking/crazing. The one on the right is the new style safe float.
