Forward gear removal, 2005 Johnson 50HP

I'm taking apart a lower unit on my 2005 Johnson 50 J50PLSOC. I have the unit totally taken apart except for the forward gear which will not come out. I have removed everything, the propeller shaft, shift lever, pinion gear etc. but for the life of me I can tell how to remove the forward gear. It seems as if it is hanging up on something. I know behind the forward gear is the bearing and trust washers. Anyone give me an idea how to remove this stubborn gear? You can see a blow up of the lower unit at:

After looking at it more closely, does the forward gear require an inside gear removal tool as in is the bearing race pressed into the gear housing?
