Disconnecting Kill Switch on 1976 15Hp

Is there an easy way to disconnect the stop switch on a 1976 15Hp Evinrude. I am not getting any spark and want to ensure that my switch is not shorting. It appears that it goes from the rubber stop button to the coil connectors. Can the wires be disconnected from either the stop button or the coil connectors or is there another way?
 
For your 1976 points style motor, the black kill switch wires can be disconnected at two black connectors located below the fuel pump on the starboard side.

These snap together just like the blue coil connectors. Grab both sides, depress the tang and they'll pull apart.
