1955 7.5hp Evinrude Remove lower unit

My lower unit only drops about 1 1/2-2 inches and I can't remove it to replace the impellar is there something i'm nat disconnecting

Sounds like you haven't disconnected the shift shaft.

I'm really not sure on that particular model. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Remove the powerhead in order to access the shift rod connection.
