New to forum, hey to y'all. I have a Yamaha 50 hp 2 cycle 2006 engine. Getting ready for summer, experienced the following.
1. While testing the engine in driveway with proper water supply, something sounds amiss in the lower unit. Prop spins, is not loose. Once I stop engine, everything is tight - cannot shake lower unit, prop, etc and hear same noise. Just replaced lower unit oil - it is full with proper oil.
2. Once in the water, she runs great until I hit 4500 rpms, then it sounds as if the motor / lower unit disengages - rpms sounds the same, but the engine behaves as if its running aground.
In my mind, I am connecting the two as maybe the gears are not fully engaging under faster speeds - but how do I check on land?
