Lower unit. Evinrude Model 6805 B 1978 6hp

I have a 1978 Evinrude. Model 6805 B. It has a long lower unit on it. How hard if possible, to remove the ext. piece, and make it a short shaft lower unit. Will I need any parts. Or can i do with out buying anything. Thank You
 
Removing the extension is easy but you will need a standard length drive shaft. Expensive when available but in fact no longer available new for that engine.
A standard length upper shift rod. Also no longer available new.
You would also need to shorten the water tube.

Unless you can find the drive shaft and the shift rod the conversion is a non starter.
It might be possible for a good machine shop to modify the existing parts but that wont be a cheap option either I guess

Sell it and buy a standard shaft model.
