2006 Evinrude 175hp cutting out

Hello,

I have a 2006 Crestliner with an Evinrude Etec 175 outboard. When you get the boat up to full speed it cuts out off and on. Acts like its sucking air or the engine is derating. Checked the fuel lines and found one loose at a connection, but that didn't fix it.

I retired some years before that engine came into existence BUT for the reference of others....... Is that surge a slow up and down type surge (fuel), or a very quick and sharp change of rpm (ignition).
