Stiff Shift

I believe its a 6hp.. its a Johnson. Sat for a long time. Shifter is really stiff. How to take of shift lever to free up?

Most likely, if it is a 60s/70s, you have to pull the powerhead to do it. I doubt it is in the lower end. The shifter shaft can get gummy up at the top and there is an o'ring in there as well. fun!
