removing lower leg 2002 200hp

is there a trick to removing lower leg from 2002 200vmax? I need to check the spline of a 5" extension used to make my 20" into a 25". I am also having problems with the tilt control for one of my motors. It works at the motor but not at the controls. Is there a selenoid between the controls and motor or is it just a loose wire?

there is another bolt for the lower unit under the trim tab above the prop. access is by removing rubber plug from top and using extension with socket. think it is 14mm. as for the trim and tilt issues there are not any solenoids other than the ones on the engine block, but if it works on the pan(motor) then I would check the plug connectors under the control box. if you have a CC you can usually see the wires under the console, cant miss em they are red green and blue
