cam rod bushing o-ring

can anyone tell me where the small o-ring for the cam rod bushing goes. it looks like it goes on the inside of it but there wasnt one there. the detail in the parts book shows this but i cant tell if in goes in it or on top of it. thanks for any information and sorry for such a long post. i hope this makes sense. this is for model ns5b.
 
If you're referring to the tiny o-ring at the bushing at the LU, yes, there is a groove for the o-ring inside the bushing, and the rod seals against it. See the parts catalog on Elvin's website at http://www.internetoutboards.com/Pa...arts Catalog NS5B (2003) - (002N21005-6).pdf That would be item 34 in figure 8 on page 17, I believe.

If there wasn't one there when you disassembled it, then there should have been a fair leak of water into the LU. It will take a wee bit of patience and dexterity to install the new one. Removing an old one also generally requires an o-ring pick.
