Help with loss of power in Vovlo Penta Diesel

:confused:We have a volvo penta inboard that hubby is having problems with and anyones thoughts would be appreciated as he'd like to fix it rather than put it in the shop, :the boat looses power under load, reaches maximum revs etc when started out of the water but when in the water & under load it looses power and wont reach the top speeds it used to. Have checked and replaced all filters, have cleaned out diesel tanks & lines & added new diesel.....hes thinking it maybe the turbo?:confused:
 
i had the same problem on a tamd41a it ended up being the lift pump also like stringer bell wrote what eng. also if it was turbo it would be alot of black smoke

right finally we have the info, its a Volvo Diesel Penta, 150HP Turbo, (he thought is was a common rail diesel) Numbers found on engine as follows: AD31P-A, 869046, No2203122585
 
Sounds like turbo with the engine off take off the air cleaner and see if the turbo spins freely

if not its usually coked up on the exhaust side. Take of the exhaust elbow and see if the turbine fins are rubbing in the housing

Clean up and good luck or else you might need a rebuild
