115hp Mariner

Hi,please can anybody help me with year on 115 HP Mariner straight 6 oil inj.model OB 260079 as well can u help with problem on trim/tilt. when i use t/t it goes slow up/down then wires to t/t motor gets hot and smoking,oil is full please help.

Hi Fanie,

Few things to consider here:

Is the tilt tube lubricated well?
Any impediment as to linkages being worn out and dry?
Have you tilted the motor manually yet to see if it lifts easily?
Voltage drop in circuit causing electrical resistance?
Correct oil in system?
Has the T & T system been overhauled lately? Seals could be shot...
Is this when the boat is at dock or under power?


What's general condition of the motor? My experince shows that if a motor looks a bit tatty, she's prone to be neglected too. My 2c's worth.

Hi,Ben the mach.that service the motor didnt service the t/t,the motor runs 100% what i found if its trimmed and laying ashore for a while its lowered by itselfs

sounds like the seals are shot. rebuild and then see what you have. more than likely all your problems will be resolved
